Vishing, otherwise known as Voice or VoIP phishing, is a criminal scam attempt for deceivers to gain access to an individual’s valuable, private or financial information through the use of Internet telephone services (VoIP). ‘Vishing’ is a portmanteau of ‘voice’ and ‘phishing’.
Vishers can use both live and automated voice calls impersonating governments/banks to trick or scare you into divulging your personal or financial information such as your personal ID and credit card details.
How to Protect Yourself from Vishing Attacks?
- Never provide your personal information over the phone
- Do not call the number given by the caller
- Give the company a direct call to check if the call was legitimate
- Report the call to the company the caller claimed to be from
